San Antonio Zoo welcomes rare and endangered okapi calf born over the weekend

by Michael Karlis

A rare and endangered male okapi calf, a species often referred to as the "Unicorn of Africa" due to its elusive nature, was born at the San Antonio Zoo, according to officials. Born Saturday, the calf is the first son of parents Ludimi and Epulu. Zoo officials described the birth of the animal, which resembles a cross between a deer and a zebra, as a win for zoological conservation.
