San Antonio's Northside ISD votes to join class action lawsuit against social media companies
Northside Independent School District’s board last week voted to join a national class action lawsuit alleging large social media companies are peddling material harmful to the minds of students, the Express-News reports. The suit, first filed by the San Mateo County Board of Education in California in March 2023, maintains that the San Mateo Office of Education documented “hard science demonstrating the claim that social media is fueling a mental health epidemic in school-aged children.” Hundreds of school districts across the country have since joined the legal action, including Houston ISD, whose state-appointed board last week unanimously voted to take the step, according to nonprofit newsroom Houston Landing.
