San Antonio's Esperanza Center hosting Día de los Muertos ceremony Friday evening

The Esperanza Peace & Justice Center is hosting its annual Día de los Muertos celebration this Friday from 4 to 10 p.m. The Rinconcito de Esperanza, located at 816 S. Colorado St., will be draped with cempasúchil (marigolds) and overtaken by more than 20 community ofrendas, or altars honoring lost loved ones, for an event that's at once somber, powerful and breathtakingly beautiful. The gathering also will include food, face painting, live mariachi performances and a true sense of West Side communidad, according to organizers.
