Former Texas Sen. Carlos Uresti, convicted for his role in Ponzi scheme, released from prison

Former state Sen. Carlos Uresti of San Antonio was released from a federal prison in Bastrop on Friday after serving four years and four months of a 12-year sentence for participating in a Ponzi scheme. Mikal Watts, Uresti’s attorney, said in an email to The Texas Tribune that Uresti had checked into a halfway house two hours after his release from prison. A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons said Uresti would remain in “community confinement” at the halfway house until his release date on Dec. 12, 2024.
