Former San Antonio state Sen. Carlos Uresti free from federal custody

by Sanford Nowlin

Former State Sen. Carlos Uresti, whose fall from grace included a 12-year prison sentence, will be released today from federal custody, the Express-News reports. The 61-year-old former Democratic politician will be a free man after serving roughly five years and 10 months of the sentence he received after he was found guilty of money laundering and wire fraud related to a Ponzi scheme. “Some thought I would fail or break, but I stand here wiser, stronger, and a better man with the help of my family and friends,” Uresti said in a statement supplied to the Express-News.
