Analysis: Gov. Greg Abbott faces failure on latest school voucher push
The Texas Legislature has taken a dim view of school vouchers for the past two decades. Multiple attempts by GOP leaders to gain traction on the idea have sputtered out amid strong opposition by Democrats and rural Republicans. The concerns that fed that resistance — namely, that vouchers siphon money away from public schools to fund private education for the children of wealthy Texans — haven't changed.
